During these very difficult times Electoral Management Systems (EMS) would like to take this opportunity to reach out to our colleagues and friends at electoral commissions around the world to extend our best wishes and hopes for your well being and safety.
While conditions are difficult, we, like many of you, are finding new ways to continue to work and maintain normal operations. EMS remains fully operational with our supply chain intact and we are ready to provide your commission with any election or voter registration materials needed, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the safety of electoral staff and voters.
With the uncertainty, postponements, and delays to election timelines during the COVID 19 pandemic it is essential to continue to prepare for future elections now. In fact, delays present an opportunity for some electoral management bodies to save valuable financial resources on the procurement of materials. Electoral management bodies may consider advanced planning for their procurement needs and have electoral supplies delivered by ocean, allowing for significant savings.
Restrictions on air travel are having significant impacts on the cost and availability of airfreight. In some cases, airfreight rates have doubled or tripled since the implementation of travel restrictions. With the delays and postponements of election dates, ocean freight may be a viable and cost-effective option for many election commissions currently seeking to organize the procurement of materials.
